Vertiv Product Design Language

Establishing Identity & Leadership

When Vertiv dropped its identity as Emerson Network Power and came into its own, it needed a product design language to reflect its new identity.

Developing a product design language that can be applied to a recognizable extent across hundreds of products is never a small task, but Vertiv was committed to the exercise and reached out to Zukun for the project. Zukun was tasked to capture Vertiv’s new brand identity and interpret it into physical attributes that can be applied to various types of current products and develop a visual document that guides the design of future products.

We took into consideration product location, proximity, and size when applying design language. Vertiv is in the unique position of having a wide range of product sizes from large rooftop products (such as the EFC 300) to small handheld products (such as ELS). These products are made with different materials, manufacturing processes, and environmental requirements. The product design language document unifies all products through a set of consistent guidelines covering product shape, vent pattern, branding application, color and finish, LED indicators -- down to interface icons and typography.

Vertiv started this project with a diverse product family of visually inconsistent brands outside the Vertiv umbrella. At the end of this project they were armed with a comprehensive product design language that establishes Vertiv’s future as a recognizable product family leading in their industry.

Zukun provided Vertiv with an interactive visual document to be referenced by marketing, planning, engineering, designers, and development partners.
